Overview

Adult and Child Center provides Therapeutic Foster Care for children in central Indiana who have been removed from their homes. As part of the Therapeutic Foster Care Team, the Therapeutic Care Specialist ensures that children's needs are being met in their foster homes, ensuring their safety and helping them to cope with the transition to foster care. The Therapeutic Care Specialist collaborates with licensing staff, Staff Therapists, psychologists, foster families, and DCS/Probation staff to support each child, while the family works toward reunification.

 

Therapeutic Care Specialists have the opportunity to help foster children heal and grow while in care, providing behavioral health services to meet each child's needs. This individual also works on skill building with children and families, supervises parental visits, attends court and team meetings with DCS/Probation staff, and provides case management with foster families. Services are delivered primarily in community-based settings.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide behavioral health services for foster children
  • Help children and families build needed skills
  • Support foster children at school and in their foster homes, ensuring their needs are met
  • Ensure the safety of each child
  • Create accurate, timely progress notes and reports/documentation

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work or related behavioral health field required
  • Available to work until 6-8 p.m., with occasional weekends
  • Ability to maintain professional relationships with a variety of individuals (staff therapists, psychologists, foster families, licensing staff, and DCS/Probation staff)
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Must hold a valid driver's license with acceptable driving record and provide own, insured, transportation
